The top and bottom back corners of your mouth house the four permanent adult teeth known as wisdom teeth. One or more of these teeth may need to be surgically removed during a wisdom tooth extraction. It will almost likely be necessary to extract a wisdom tooth that is impacted (not able to erupt fully), causing discomfort, an infection, or other dental problems. Both an oral surgeon and a dentist can extract wisdom teeth. Wisdom tooth extraction is recommended by certain oral surgeons and dentists even in cases where impacted teeth do not provide a health risk at this time. If the tooth hasn't burst through the gum yet, a little incision will be made in the gum to get at it. It might also be required.
